Housing Stockholm:

Based on the modular town house system developed by Realarchitektur for a collective housing project in Tensta, we have designed further low rise high density housing for different sites in Stockholm and the surrounding suburbs.

Housing Stockholm

The first project in Hägersten, Stockholm on Kransbindarvägen will have approximately 40 units spread over 4 buildings. In an additional building at the entrance to the development a nursery is planned. The project is at masterplan stage and is expected to be realised by spring 2011. The project is bordering to an area originally developed to house workers from the Ericsson family. It is an especially good and one of the first examples of Swedish modernist housing architecture and is therefore a conservation area.

The buildings in the new housing project have been conceived with a set of 4 different unit types, ranging from two storey four room flats to three storey 5 room flats. The units are placed in relation to the sloping site on different heights and connected together to form larger buildings. The buildings proportions and locations are relating to the existing housing area. All flats are accessible from the street over ramps and stairs. In addition to the terrace on the first floor each unit has a small garden out towards the woodlands on the back of the building.

Housing Stockholm

The housing shortage in Stockholm as well as the partly underdeveloped suburbs, mainly build in the 1930s to 70s, give a great opportunity for creating a new type of suburban character. The standardised houses can be built at low cost. The multiple modules allow for a creative response to the surrounding. The aim is to use the town house structure to allow for small scale individual houses and still create homogeneous large scale buildings.

The master plan for Kransbindarvägen is exhibited at the town planning office in Stockholm and will be presented in Hägersten on the 14th of December 2009. Clients Familjebostäder and Besquab
