About

Realarchitektur is a Berlin based architectural practice owned and directed by Petra Petersson Architektin BDA. Realarchitektur was founded in 2003.

Realarchitektur

One of our first commissions is the award winning project Sammlung Boros, the conversion and extension of a listed air-raid bunker in Berlin for the contemporary art collector Christian Boros to house art, living and exhibition spaces. Realarchitektur exhibited the bunker in the German contribution to the Architecture Biennale in Venice in 2006 “Convertible City”, it was one out of three nominees for the Nordic architecture price Forum AID 2008 and has been awarded “architekturpreis beton 2008”.

Realarchitektur won a competition for a collective housing project in Tensta, Stockholm and was presented at the housing exhibition Bo06. The low rise, high density proposal based on a modular townhouse concept used to urbanise mainly developments from the 1960, is being realised with the client, Familjebostäder on different sites in the suburbs of Stockholm. It is part of a series of urban studies such as “Schneller Wohnen” (in cooperation with IFAU), boalla housing competition (honorary mention); all dealing with the complexity of modern cities and interactions of its inhabitants.

Currently Realarchitektur is also working on diverse conversion projects for private and public use in Berlin and Stockholm. Amongst other an art-center with a theater, galleries and artist studios is being developed in close cooperation with the clients and the future tenants.

“For Realarchitektur, inspiration comes easily thanks to the architects' inquisitive natures: by examining the underused, the everyday and the familiar, and combining their findings within the project restrictions and spatial situation, they see themselves as transformers of what is already there.” (101 of the world’s most exciting new architects, Wallpaper Architects directory 2007)
